There are better ways to spend your money and still get him what he needs to make great beer. For the basic kit, go to eBay or to your local brew shop. Add a stainless steel stock pot (5 gallons if he is going to brew with extracts, 7 1/2 gallons to 10 gallons if he is advanced enough for whole grain). Add a 5- to 6.5-gallon glass carboy. Your cost will be about half of what you thought. You can even add a copy of Papazian’s book The New Complete Joy of Home Brewing. It’s my favorite basic brewing book.

If you really want to spend $230, you could get an assortment of malts, extracts, adjuncts, and assorted chemicals and toys. Home brewers can always find another gadget to play with.

BTW, I got started with a Brewers’ Best kit and still use it.

I need help finding the perfect Home Brew Kit?
My brother said he wants a home brew kit to make beer for his birthday. He has also stated that he will not tell us what one, or where to buy it at.

The only information I have about it is:
    1) You make beer with it
    2) It’s $230

If any of you can give me help on all the home brew kits out there, that would be great. Also, maybe helping me find the $230 one?

    Thanks!

For a Coopers Home Brew Kit-are the air plastic bottle cap lids reusable if the air lock seal is not in them?
Also if not or – does anyone know where to buy more lids at?

I’ve always reused my plastic lids and never had a problem. That lock seal is commercially made on all plastic lids because they are usually used for the soda industry or bottled water, and are used to show if the lid has been tampered with. On your home brewing, unless you don’t trust the folks that live with you, there shouldn’t be a need for the “tamper evident” seal.

As long as the lids haven’t been damaged any, and still hold a good seal, you can keep using them.

Is there still a home-brew kit around that has all the ingredients in it and you just add water?
As i remember it was in a bag with a gas release valve on it, and it could be hung up for the duration of the fermentation process. Then it could be drawn off using a tap at the bottom…… CAN these still be obtained (all fully disposable to save mess) I seem to remember BOOTS doing them along time ago.

What is the best home brewing kit to buy?
I have NO experience brewing beer at home. I have friends who brewed beer in college and they used a Mr. Beer kit, I DO NOT want that one. I know that cleanliness is key, but I want to know what’s the best kit out there and will the kit come with everything I need or will I have to get extra stuff?

All help, hints or suggestions are appreciated.

    Cheers and Thanks!

Has anyone used the Mr. Beer home brewing kit?
I ordered a Mr. Beer home brewing kit and I have some questions:

    How did you like it?
Is it as easy to use as they make it out to be?
Whats the proper way to sanitize the bottles?
Do you need to sanitize them after each use?
After bottling, at what point can I put it in the fridge?
    Any do’s and dont advice?

    Thanks!

The best thing you can do is go to your local home brewer store. They can set you up for <$150, and it’ll be quality equipment.

If you’ve never brewed before, this kit is fine. It is an ultra simplified home brew kit that would make seasoned home brewers cringe….but if you are not a seasoned home brewer you will have fun. Its easy, just follow the directions, keep everything clean, and in the dark. If all goes well you will have beer at the end that tastes ok. You may even catch the brewing bug and invest a few hundred dollars on a real beginner kit from homebrew supplies. Have fun!
